Mayuree is of the Lahu tribe; she has one younger sister. She is shy, obedient, well-mannered,studious, and especially enjoys learning the Lahu language, her mother’s tongue. In her free time, she plays football, draws, sings, and helps her mother wash dishes and do laundry. Her mother has disabilities and relies on her father for care. They rely on annual agricultural income but have debt from farming investments. Her parents hope supporting Yuree’s education will offer a brighter future. She dreams of becoming a doctor.
